Training

 

We offer training (experience) hours with our instructors on our boat or yours. These hours are for inland waters up to Category B coastal skippers. Contact us for more information, prices and availability.

 

 

Courses

Courses range from inland waters to 40 nautical miles coastal. Upon completion of your skippers course you will receive a SAMSA issued skippers license.

Category R (inland waters) - Required for driving a boat on inland waters (lagoons, rivers and dams). 25 hours of driving experience is to be logged and signed and your time must be on a category R or better boat. This is a one day course.

Category E (one nautical mile) - Required for driving a boat out to one nautical mile. 25 hours of driving experience is to be signed and your time must be on a category E or better boat under the supervision of at cat E or better skipper. This is a one day course.

Category C (15 nautical mile) - Required for driving a boat out to 15 nautical miles. 25 hours of driving experience is to be signed and your time must be on a category C or better boat under the supervision of at cat C or better skipper. This is a two day course.

Category B (40 nautical mile) - Required for driving a boat out to 40 nautical miles. 50 hours of driving experience is to be signed and your time must be on a category C or better boat under the supervision of at cat B or better skipper. This is a two day course.

Category B Coastal (40 nautical mileday/night) - Required for driving a boat out to 40 nautical miles day and night on coastal voyages. 150 hours of driving experience, of which 50 need to be completed at night, are to be signed and your time must be on a category C or better boat under the supervision of at cat B Coastal or better skipper. This is a two day course.

Short Range Certificate - Is a two day course (10-12 hours) and is required for registering your VHF radio on cat D-B vessels. Approximately 4 hours of theory, 4 hours of practical training, 3 hours of reviews and both written and practical exams.

 
Pre-Sea Induction - Is a one day course required as a pre-requisite for working on vessels under 25 GT.  You will be required to bring your ID, a swim suit and towel.  You will enjoy a brief swim in our pool as part of your exam.

You are required to bring for your skippers course:

- Annex 16 with the designated number of hours signed off by a suitably qualified skipper.  A copy of that skippers license to accompany your application

- Annex 17 is to be taken to a doctor for completion.  They must complete both pages.

-Two copies of ID,valid passport or birth certificate and 4 colour ID photos (no hats or glasses).
